My beginner’s curiosity about artificial intelligence (AI) suggested an experiment. How objective, comprehensive, and impartial is the vision of AI? And I chose a subject that is still quite controversial, even among the bloggers of this magazine, the forced electrification of the European car park. I, therefore, asked a well-known AI site to write an article of a thousand lines, a thousand and not more than a thousand. The question was: “Please write a short newspaper article (1000 characters, gross) about the advantages/disadvantages of cars and light-duty vehicles as introduced by the moratoria on internal combustion engines in the European Union and the United Kingdom after 2035”.
The European Union and the United Kingdom have announced plans to introduce a moratorium on internal combustion engines in cars and light-duty vehicles by 2035. This move towards electric vehicles brings numerous advantages, including environmental benefits and economic opportunities.
Electric vehicles emit significantly less pollution than traditional combustion engines, reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. As a result, this shift towards electric vehicles can help to improve air quality, particularly in urban areas where pollution is a major health concern.
Moreover, the moratorium presents a significant economic opportunity for both manufacturers and consumers. The production and sale of electric vehicles is expected to increase rapidly, creating new jobs in manufacturing and infrastructure development. Furthermore, the cost of electric vehicles is expected to decrease as production increases and technology advances, making them more affordable for consumers.
Finally, electric vehicles offer a range of benefits for drivers. They are quieter, smoother and offer instant acceleration. They require less maintenance, as there are fewer mechanical parts to replace or repair, and they are more energy-efficient, reducing the cost of fuel for the driver.
While there are still challenges to overcome, such as the development of charging infrastructure and battery technology, the moratorium on internal combustion engines in cars and light-duty vehicles presents a positive step towards a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly future. By embracing electric vehicles, we can improve the quality of life for people, and protect the planet for future generations.
While the moratorium on internal combustion engines in cars and light-duty vehicles in the European Union and the United Kingdom after 2035 presents many advantages, it also comes with several potential disadvantages.
One of the main challenges is the high cost of electric vehicles compared to traditional cars. While the price of electric vehicles is expected to decrease over time, they are still more expensive to produce than combustion engines. This means that electric vehicles may not be affordable for everyone, particularly low-income households.
Another challenge is the limited range of electric vehicles, which can be a barrier to adoption for some drivers. Although electric vehicle technology is advancing, the range of an electric car is still typically less than that of a traditional car. This means that drivers may have to recharge more frequently, particularly on long journeys, which could be inconvenient and time-consuming.
In addition, the widespread adoption of electric vehicles will require significant infrastructure investment, particularly in charging stations. While governments and private companies are investing in charging infrastructure, it will take time to build the necessary network of charging stations across the country, particularly in rural areas.
Finally, the shift towards electric vehicles could have a significant impact on the automotive industry and the economy more broadly. The production of combustion engines currently supports many jobs, particularly in regions that rely heavily on the automotive sector. The transition to electric vehicles could lead to job losses and economic disruption in these regions.
Overall, while the moratorium on internal combustion engines in cars and light-duty vehicles presents many potential benefits, there are also several challenges that must be overcome. Governments and industry must work together to address these challenges and ensure that the transition to electric vehicles is as smooth and equitable as possible.
The first surprise was the phrasing of the inanimate ghostwriter: IA used 1718 characters to magnify the merit of the electric turn, and 1661 to enumerate its shortcomings. In short, man has not transmitted the virtue of synthesis to the machine but the vice of verbosity. In that regard, AI is very human.
Artificial intelligence is quite comprehensive on that particular issue, especially when it comes to the benefits of European moratoria. However, when we consider the two answers, we immediately understand which way we stand. The vision of AI is fully centered on the advanced society, based on the indisputable archetype of the consumer society. But it neglects any questions about the actual impact of the measure on a global scale and, therefore, on the declared climate mitigation target. The AI, however, made a congenital task, a little stereotyped despite its abuse of space rigorously measured in 1000 characters. No more than a thousand characters remain a cruel mirage.
How do you think the shift towards electric vehicles will impact the global effort to mitigate climate change?
